Abstract (ITA)

Le persone, per sopravvivere, svilupparsi e rilassarsi, hanno bisogno di conoscere se stesse, il loro ambiente fisico e sociale. Tale conoscenza può essere raggiunta attraverso tre processi - osservazione, conversazione e consultazione –, che si devono apprendere. I governi giocano un ruolo importante in questo processo in quanto essi fissano gli obiettivi educativi finali e facilitano l’infrastruttura. 3 Nel sistema educativo, le biblioteche scolastiche svolgono un ruolo importante: funzionano come centri in cui apprendere come accedere alle informazioni in modo efficace, efficiente ed etico e sono un canale verso tali informazioni sia fisiche che digitali. Le ricerche mostrano come gli studenti con una buona biblioteca scolastica funzionante hanno risultati migliori degli studenti privi di biblioteca scolastica. Per avere una buona biblioteca scolastica è necessaria una “politica di biblioteca scolastica”, in cui siano descritti i fini, i compiti, le responsabilità e le procedure di tutti gli interlocutori. Nel 2015 l’IFLA School Libraries Section ha pubblicato la seconda edizione delle IFLA School Library Guidelines, approvate dalla IASL (International Association of School Librarianship) e tradotte in 20 lingue. Il comitato congiunto IASL/IFLA ha anche sviluppato un insieme di materiali laboratoriali – Introduzione e sei Moduli - basati su tali Linee guida, liberamente accessibili e adattabili ai bisogni locali. Abstract (EN)

  In order to survive, to develop and to relax, people need knowledge about themselves, their physical environment and their social environment. They can find this knowledge in three processes: observation, conversation and consultation.

These processes have to be learned. Governments play an important role in this process as they determine the final objectives of education and facilitate infrastructure.

In this educational system school libraries play an important role. They function as a learning centre on how to have effective, efficient and ethical access to information and are a channel to this information in both physical and digital form.

Research shows that students of schools with a good working library perform better than students of schools without a school library. To have a good working school library there should be a ‘School Library Policy’ in which the aims, tasks, responsibilities and procedures of all stakeholders is described.

In 2015 the IFLA School Libraries Section published the 2^nd edition of the IFLA School Library Guidelines. Since then it has been approved by IASL {International Association of School Librarianship] and translated into 20 languages. The IASL / IFLA Joint Committee has also developed a set of workshop materials based on the Guidelines. Workshop materials consists of an Introduction and six Modules. The material can be used freely and adapted to meet local needs.

Albert K. Boekhorst (1943) è uno scienziato dell'informazione semi-pensionato dell'Università di Amsterdam. È stato in servizio presso il Dipartimento di Scienza dell'Informazione dell'Università di Pretoria dal 1995 al 2001 come "Visiting Lecturer" e dal 2001 al 2011 come "Visiting Professor"; attualmente è ricercatore associato presso tale Dipartimento.

I suoi interessi di ricerca si concentrano sull'accesso all'informazione, in particolar modo, sulla competenza informativa e mediatica (Media and Information Literacy - MIL) e il ruolo delle biblioteche (comprese quelle scolastiche).

Tra le altre cose, è "Information Officer" dell'IFLA School Libraries Section, Vicepresidente (addetto alle Relazioni con le Associazioni) della IASL (International Association of School Librarianship), Coordinatore dell'ENSIL (European Network for School Libraries and Information literacy) e membro dell'Associazione olandese dei documentalisti (KNVI).

Ha partecipato a molti incontri dei Gruppi di esperti dell'UNESCO sulla "Media and Information Literacy" e ha coordinato, per l'UNESCO, a livello mondiale la serie di workshop di formazione dei formatori per la competenza informativa (Information Literacy).

È stato coinvolto nell'elaborazione delle Raccomandazioni UNESCO-IFLA per la MIL. Attualmente partecipa anche all'Alleanza gglobale per i partenariati sulla MIL (GAPMIL - The Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy).

Albert K. Boekhorst (1943) is a semi-retired information scientist (Universiteit van Amsterdam). He has been attached to the Department of Information Science of the University of Pretoria from 1995 – 2001 as a Visiting Lecturer and from 2001 – 2011 as Visiting Professor. He is currently a Research Associate at the Department.

His research concentrates on the access to information, especially on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) and the role of (school) libraries.

Among others he is Information Officer of the IFLA School Libraries section, Vice President (Association Relations) of IASL (International Association of School Librarianship), Coordinator of ENSIL (European Network for School Libraries and Information literacy) and member of KNVI (Dutch Association for Information Professionals).

He participated in several UNESCO Expert Group Meetings on Media and Information Literacy and coordinated the worldwide UNESCO TtT in Information Literacy workshops series.

He was involved in writing the UNESCO-IFLA MIL Recommendation. Presently he also participates in ‘The Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy’ (GAPMIL).
