Abstract (ITA)

Si presentano la genesi e gli scopi del Seminario Internazionale su "The Evolving Concept of 'School Library' and Its Profession" (Il concetto in evoluzione di "biblioteca scolastica" e della sua professione); si illustra il programma e si fornisce una cornice di riferimento all'interno della quale si sta svolgendo il dibattito sullo sviluppo della biblioteca scolastica a livello nazionale e internazionale.

Si introduce poi la prima sessione, evidenziando come la biblioteca scolastica, secondo quanto riportano gli "impact studies" del settore, sia un elemento importante per la qualità dell'istruzione, il rendimento scolastico, la formazione integrale della persona come cittadino consapevole e attivo.

Abstract (EN)

The genesis and aims of the International Seminar on "The Evolving Concept of 'School Library' and Its Profession" are explained; the program is introduced and a framework of the current international and national debate on the school library is provided.

The first session is then introduced, undelining how the school library, according to several "impact studies" of the sector, is an important component towards quality in education, learning outcomes, the person's integral education as an aware and active citizen.

In memoriam

ll seminario, che si muove sui due piani - internazionale e nazionale - è dedicato, per il significativo apporto umano e professionale dato alla biblioteconomia e documentazione scolastica, alla memoria di Lourense Das - bibliotecaria scolastica, fondatrice  dell'ENSIL, Director Europe for IASL (2003-2009), membro dell'IFLA School Libraries Section, ideatrice della campagna di advocacy delle biblioteche scolastiche "ALIES - A Library In Every School" (alla base dell'analoga campagna italiana "BIOS - Una Biblioteca In Ogni Scuola") - e di Fabrizio Melchiori - documentalista scolastico presso il Liceo Machiavelli di Roma e Cultore della Materia "Bibliografia e Biblioteconomia", esperto di information literacy, ideatore di tanti progetti legati alla valorizzazione della documentazione scolastica e della realtà locale (tra cui il Progetto Macao), ideatore del "racconto bibliografico", espediente didattico per educare alla ricerca e all'elaborazione delle informazioni, sviluppato con L. Marquardt e applicato con successo in diversi contesti (scolastico, accademico e carcerario).
Entrambi - prematuramente scomparsi nel 2019 - avrebbero sicuramente apprezzato questo seminario e vi avrebbero dato un importante contributo.
Un pensiero particolarmente commosso e grato va a loro.

In loving memory

The seminar, that is held on two dimensions - international and national -, for the meaningful human and professional contribution to School Librarianship and Information Science, is dedicated in loving memory to Lourense Das - school librarian, founder of ENSIL, Director Europe for IASL (2003-2009), Member of the  IFLA School Libraries Section, creator of the school library advocacy campaign "ALIES - A Library In Every School" (at the base of the Italian twin campaign "BIOS - Una Biblioteca In Ogni Scuola") - and Fabrizio Melchiori - school information specialist at Machiavelli High School in Rome and Lecturer of Library and Information Science at Roma Tre University, information literacy education expert, creator of many projects concerning the exploitation of school and local community documentation (among which the Macao Project), creator of the "bibliographic narration", a didactic tool to educate students to searching for information and processing it, developed with L. Marquardt and successfully applied in different contexts (school, university, prison).

Both of them - passed away in 2019 - would have appreciate this seminar and contribute to it with an important contribution.

A particularly heartfelt and grateful thought goes to them.

Luisa Marquardt (M.Ed.; M.LIS; M.e-L) insegna Bibliografia e Biblioteconomia presso l'Università “Roma Tre”, dall'A.A: 2002-03 nel Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione (CdL SDE e SDEonline) e, dall'A.A. 2016-17, anche presso il Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici dello stesso Ateneo.

In modo particolare (ma non esclusivo) si occupa professionalmente, dalla fine degli anni '70, di biblioteche scolastiche e degli effetti cognitivi, metacognitivi e relazionali del loro utilizzo, nonché di formazione e aggiornamento in tale ambito.

È attivamente coinvolta in associazioni bibliotecarie (AIB, IFLA, IASL, CNBA ecc.), che promuovono e sostengono la professione bibliotecaria nei diversi contesti, e in varie associazioni culturali (Forum del Libro, OPAM ecc.) che promuovono la lettura e l'alfabetizzazione. Partecipa a gruppi di lavoro e ricerca. Ha tradotto il Manifesto Ifla-Unesco per le biblioteche solastiche e curato e promosso l'edizione italiana di altre pubblicazioni Ifla (AIB 1995, 1998, 2004, 2015); coordinato, con Dianne Oberg, il progetto Ifla/IASL Global perspectives on School Libraries; contribuito all'elaborazione delle nuove Linee guida Ifla per le biblioteche scolastiche (2015). Già consulente del Caspur (ora Cineca) e del Formez, collabora con il Goethe-Institut Italien.

Dirige la “Biblioteca Statuario” (http://bibliostatuario.wordpress.com), facente parte di SBN.

Riconoscimenti e incarichi: IASL Award for School Librarianship (2008); Director Europe for the IASL (2009-2016); Elected Member of the IFLA School Library Section (2017-2021); Member of the IASL-IFLA Joint Steering Committee.

Luisa Marquardt teaches Library and Information Science at the Department of Education of “Roma Tre” University. Qualified and specialized in both fields – Library Science and Education -, she worked as a chartered librarian in high schools for over 20 years and as a librarians’ educator and trainer as well; she has been professionally involved in school libraries, school librarianship and information literacy since late 1970s, takes part in work and research groups; contributes to library journals; translated the IFLA-UNESCO School Library Manifesto into Italian; contributed to the revision of the IFLA-Unesco School Library Guidelines, coordinated by Prof. Dianne Oberg and Barbara Schultz-Jones; edited the Italian edition of the IFLA Guidelines for school libraries (1995, 1998, 2004, 2015); collaborated with the Interuniversity Supercomputing Consortium CASPUR (http://www.caspur.it) and the Goethe-Institut Italien. She is Director of a small but active community library, the “Biblioteca Statuario” (http://bibliostatuario.wordpress.com) and a proud member of several associations (e.g., AIB, AIDA, IASL, IFLA, LAG Schulbibliotheken) and groups (e.g., ENSIL). Director Europe for IASL (2009-2016), she is currently an elected member of the IFLA School Libraries Section. Formerly the coordinator of the AIB (Italian Library Association) National Standing Committee on School Libraries, she is a Board Member of the CNBA (http://www.cnba.it) and the Book Forum ("Forum del Libro", http://www.forumdellibro.org/ ).
