Abstract  (ITA) 

Un essere informe, o troppo magro o troppo grasso (comunque non molto in salute in quanto, ovviamente, non fa sport), chino su una scrivania, al buio, solo, con la fioca luce di una lampada a rischiarare le pagine giallastre su cui sta perdendo la vista (indossa infatti, il più delle volte, occhiali a fondo di bottiglia). Non ha amici, non ha fidanzato/fidanzata, si veste da anziano e ha perso ogni contatto con la realtà, tant’è che quando parla non lo si capisce. È il lettore, o meglio, l’immagine che di lui emerge dalle parole dei ragazzi coinvolti in un’indagine motivazionale sulla lettura del 2018.

Chi mai vorrebbe fare questa fine, soprattutto in adolescenza, quando il nostro corpo è nel pieno delle sue energie e va mostrato, pompato, agitato e sfruttato in tutte le maniere possibili? La domanda è, naturalmente, retorica.

Spesso si pensa che ad un bambino, ormai ragazzo, basti insegnare a leggere e scrivere perché poi ci si possa sentire in diritto di rimproverargli quando non lo fa o se non lo fa bene. Ebbene non basta saper leggere per volerlo fare.

La lettura è un habitus che può stare stretto, o largo, che bisogna provare in camerino prima dell’acquisto. La biblioteca scolastica è quella taverna in cui i ragazzi, anche quelli provenienti dai contesti più culturalmente deprivati, devono poter parlare di storie, di esperienze, di opinioni, una piazza per incontrare i libri, certo, ma soprattutto lettori e lettrici; una bottega per cucire il proprio habitus di lettore su misura, svecchiandolo dalla vecchia immagine topesca, in modo da poterci crescere dentro.

Abstract (EN) 

A crooked being, too thin or too fat (anyway unfit because, of course, he doesn’t practice any kind of sport), bent on a desk, in the darkness, alone, only with the fainting light of a lamp to illuminate the yellowy pages he’s losing his sight on (therefore he usually wears bottle bottom thick glasses). He doesn’t have any friends, or girlfriend/boyfriend, wears unfashioned clothes and has already lost any kind of contact with reality, so that when he speaks nobody understands. He’s the reader, or better, the image of him that emerged from the words of  100 teenagers involved in a 2018’s survey on reading motivation.

Who would ever want to end like this, especially during adolescence, when our body bursts of energy and has to be shown, pumped, shaken, used in all the possible ways? The question is, of course, rhetorical.We often believe that a child, yet a young adult, only needs to be taught how to read and write for us to feel in the right to reproach him if he doesn’t actually do it or if he’s not really good at it. 

Well, knowing how to read is not enough to motivate reading. Reading is an “habitus”, a suit that could fit tight, or loose, that we need to try on a couple of times in the dressing room before choosing to buy it. 
The school library is a guest-house, a place in which kids, especially culturally deprived ones, must feel safe and welcome to talk about stories, experiences, opinions. A forum to meet books of course, but also readers. A workshop meant to sew our personal reader’s habitus, rejuvenating it from its old mousy image and preparing it for us to grow inside it.

Di formazione artistico-umanistica, dopo una laurea triennale in Beni culturali ad indirizzo spettacolo, una magistrale in Scienze dell’Informazione, della comunicazione e dell’Editoria e un diploma di specializzazione in Beni archivistici e librari, è al momento Dottoranda in Cultura, Educazione e Comunicazione presso l'Università degli Studi Roma Tre.  

L'interesse per il rapporto tra oralità e scrittura e in particolare per le fasi di apprendimento e le spinte motivazionali soggiacenti i comportamenti di lettura hanno influenzato il proseguimento degli studi in materia, portando all'approfondimento delle tematiche riguardanti il fenomeno dell'analfabetismo funzionale e all’elaborazione di una strategia di indagine qualitativa che adotta come base metodologica proprio il dibattito.

Si occupa di animazione culturale e promozione della lettura, con l’obiettivo di coniugare il teatro e la musica (che esercita fin dall'infanzia) con le arti della parola, quali retorica, dialettica e letteratura, in iniziative che coinvolgono biblioteche e scuole. 

Collaboratrice dell'Associazione PerLaRe (per la retorica) e socia AIB; dal 2019 lavora anche come legatrice, inserendo l'esercizio della manualità e l'analisi dei supporti  nell'ideazione di progetti che indaghino e illustrino il mondo della parola ed educhino alla lettura per piacere, con particolare attenzione al mondo adolescenziale.

Coming from artistic and humanistic education, I have a three years’ degree in Cultural Heritage applied on performing arts, a master’s degree in Communication and Information Sciences, a Specialization in Library and Information Science and I am currently enrolled at the Roma Tre University, Dept. of Education as a PhD Student.
I work as a cultural animator and promotor, intending to combine theatre and music with the arts of language, such as rhetoric, debate and literature, in workshops and lectures that involve schools and libraries.
I collaborate with the PerLaRe (Association for the study of rhetoric) and AIB (Italian libraries association) starting in 2019 I also work as a book artisan, introducing handcrafting and the history of books in reading promotion projects that mean to analyze and illustrate the language and educate reading for pleasure, especially with teenagers.
