Sono Joanne Plante, Presidente dell’IFLA School Libraries Section (la Sezione Biblioteche Scolastiche dell’IFLA), e non vedevo l’ora di incontrarvi di persona per conoscere la situazione delle biblioteche scolastiche in Italia e delle biblioteche in generale. Purtroppo la vita ha deciso diversamente.

Nel corso del nostro incontro, avremmo avuto la possibilità di parlare del Manifesto IFLA-UNESCO per le biblioteche scolastiche.

Da almeno due anni l’IFLA School Libraries Section e la IASL stanno lavorando in collaborazione con i bibliotecari scolastici di tutto il mondo su questo pilastro per le biblioteche scolastiche. Due anni fa, durante l’incontro della Sezione in Kuala Lumpur, abbiamo votato per aggiornare questo documento spesso usato in altri documenti per promuovere il nostro lavoro. Abbiamo lanciato un invito a livello globale in modo da poter aggiornare tale documento. Abbiamo ricevuto tantissimi commenti che Katy Manck della IASL e io stessa abbiamo letto, classificato e trasformato in testi per aggiornare il nostro Manifesto. Vorrei cogliere questa opportunità per ringraziare la IASL e in modo particolare Katy Manck, i bibliotecari scolastici, gli insegnanti e tutti coloro che sono coinvolti nel mondo delle biblioteche scolastiche che hanno dedicato il loro tempo a esprimere commenti al fine di assicurare che siamo al passo con i tempi.  La nostra Sezione è al momento impegnata nel commentare la prima bozza del Manifesto delle biblioteche scolastiche. Renderemo pubblico questo documento nei mesi a venire per avere un’ulteriore opportunità di commentarlo prima di pervenire alla versione finale.

Vorrei ringraziare in particolare Luisa Marquardt per il lavoro svolto perché questo seminario si svolgesse e per averci creduto fino alla fine.

I miei ringraziamenti per l’impegno in questa iniziativa vanno al Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione dell’Università Roma Tre, al suo Direttore e ai Comitati Scientifico e Organizzativo, ai vari Partner, agli sponsor OCLC e MLOL, ai volenterosi partecipanti, alla IASL e alla Sezione biblioteche scolastiche dell’IFLA, il cui Mid-Year Meeting (con un nuovo seminario) è posticipato al mese di Aprile 2021.

Chair, IFLA School Libraries Section 

I am Joanne Plante, Chair of the IFLA School Libraries Section and I was eager to meet with you and learn about the Italy School Libraries life and Libraries in general.  Unfortunately, life has decided otherwise.

We would have had the chance to speak about the IFLA Manifesto for School Libraries.  For almost two years now, IFLA School Libraries Section and IASL is working in collaboration with the world School Librarians to update this pillar for School Libraries. Effectively, two years ago, during our Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, we have voted to update this document used often in documents to promote our work.  We have launched a call to comment around the world so we can update this document.  We received a lot of comments which Katy Manck from IASL and myself read, classified and turn into words to update our Manifesto. I would like to take this opportunity to thank IASL and especially Katy Manck, the School Librarians, the teachers and all the people involved in School Libraries world who took time to comment in order to ensure that we are up to date.  The IFLA School Libraries Committee is actually commenting the first draft of the School Libraries Manifesto. We will make this document public in the coming months to have another chance to comment before we work the final document.

I would like to thank Luisa Marquardt for all the hard work she did to make this seminar happened and for believing in it until the end.  My thanks for the commitment in this happening go to the Department of Education of Roma Tre University, the Head of Department and the Scientific and Organizing Committees, the several Partners, the Sponsors OCLC and MLOL, the willing participants, IASL and the IFLA School Libraries Section, whose Mid-Year Meeting (and new seminar) will be postponing in April 2021.

Joanne Plante, Direttrice della Biblioteca Laure-Conan e dell'ottimizzazione delle operazioni, Laval, Montreal, Canada, e Presidente dell'IFLA School Libraries Section. 

Decisa a diventare bibliotecaria sin dall’infanzia, registrava la data di restituzione dei libri che prestava ai suoi amici. Nel 2001 consegue la laurea magistrale in Scienze dell’informazione presso l’Università di Montreal, dopo aver svolto uno stage formativo a Lione. Joanne ottiene rapidamente il posto di Direttrice della Biblioteca di Bathurst a New-Brunswick e occupa diversi posti direttivi lungo la sua carriera lavorativa. Più recentemente, è stata Capo-Bibliotecaria per un distretto scolastico di 52 biblioteche in Ontario. Direttrice del servizio di reference per il BAnQ (Biblioteche e Archivi nazionali del Quebec) è attualmente responsabile della Biblioteca Laure-Conan di Laval e Presidente dell’IFLA School Libraries Section e Vice-Presidente del Comitato GAPMIL dell’Unesco.

Joanne Plante, Manager of the Laure-Conan Library and optimization of operations, Laval, Montreal, Canada, and Chair of the IFLA School Libraries Section. 

Determined to become a librarian from childhood, she recorded the return date of the books she lent to her friends. In 2001 she obtained a master's degree in Information Sciences from the University of Montreal, after having completed a training internship in Lyon. Joanne quickly takes up the post of Director of the Bathurst Library in New-Brunswick and occupies several managerial positions throughout her career. Most recently, she was Head of Librarian for a school district of 52 libraries in Ontario. Director of the reference service for the BAnQ (Libraries and National Archives of Quebec), she is currently responsible for the Laval Laure-Conan Library, President of theIFLA School Libraries Section and Vice-President of the UNESCO GAPMIL Committee.

Awards: Prix Micheline-Perseaud for the development and promotion of French library services in Ontario (2016); Person of the weekLe Droit Radio-Canada.
